Partially-averaged Navier–Stokes simulations of turbulence within a high-order flux reconstruction framework

High-order methods and hybrid turbulence models have independently shown promise as means of decreasing the computational cost scale-resolving simulations. The objective this work is to develop combination these analyze effects high-order discretizations on models, particularly with respect optimal model parameters relative accuracy benefits compared approaches such under-resolved direct numerical simulation (URDNS). We employ Partially-Averaged Navier-Stokes (PANS) approach using flux reconstruction scheme flow around a periodic hill wake circular cylinder at Reynolds number 3900, latter which we provide results novel statistical analysis. By increasing order discretization while fixing total degrees freedom, it was observed that larger improvements in prediction statistics physics were generally seen PANS than URDNS. Furthermore, less sensitivity resolution-control parameter discretization, indicating may be an effective for reliability simulations without significant increase effort.
